One of the things that we love to do while traveling between camping locations is to find unique places to stop for lunch or to stretch our legs. We had just spent a few days camped outside of the West Gate of Yellowstone National Park and decided to pull the camper through the park and out the South Gate on our way to Tetons National Park.
Pulling a 5th wheel through Yellowstone is not really an issue if you stay on the main roads, so the drive was beautiful as we crossed the divide multiple times. The traffic on this stretch of road was pretty light as we were heading out of the park. We had a bit of a late start that morning and were taking our time soaking in all the scenery when we decided that we really should try and find a spot to eat some lunch. We decided to pull off on one of the scenic outlook driveways and we are sure glad we did!
The view of Lewis Lake was spectacular and there was plenty of room to flip out the awning, set up some chairs, and have a relaxing lunch without holding up traffic. It was one of those memories that we will never forget and all because, at the spur of the moment, we decided to pull off the road and enjoy the day. Don’t forget to “stop and smell the roses” as there are many along the way, especially if you take the day as it comes.
Even though we didn’t even consider an hour like this on our trip to Yellowstone, it was definitely one of the highlights of our visit!
