Copper Falls State Park is a beautiful and scenic outdoor destination located in Northern Wisconsin, about 2 miles northeast of the town of Mellen. It features some of the most breathtaking waterfalls in the Midwest, as well as miles of hiking trails, camping sites, and swimming areas. The park is also home to Loon Lake, which offers visitors a chance to canoe or kayak along the river. Biking enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy here with multiple bike trails throughout the park. With so much to offer, Copper Falls State Park is sure to be an unforgettable experience for all who visit!
Campsites within the park are shaded, level, and feel secluded from other campers. There are two campgrounds within the park, each with a couple dozen sites. The park utilizes electric, non-electric, and walk-in primitive sites.
One of the nice features of the park is that the campgrounds are somewhat removed from the more public areas of the park. This seclusion creates a quiet and somewhat secluded area to relax around the fire.
Trailheads for many well-maintained walking trails are a short walk from the campground area. Five hundred acres of forest area, with more than a dozen species of trees, surround the various, beautiful waterfalls along the trail. Wildlife lurks among the many gorges and the thick and beautiful undergrowth.
Loon Lake has a swimming beach, fishing, and water sports opportunities. It serves as a great place to have a peaceful picnic surrounded by nature.
Campfire Recap
Our time at Copper Falls was so enjoyable that we vowed to return and stay for a longer period of time. The hiking paths throughout the park are beautiful and rank from leisurely to moderately challenging, but all boast unbelievable scenery and total immersion in nature.
We visited in June and it was a bit overcast and misting during part of our stay. As one would expect in this environment, the mosquitos were thick during our walks. We always come prepared with repellent and head nets, if needed. You will want to do the same in order to take a lot of time to stop and enjoy the views and listen to the quiet beauty of nature.
At this park, it is pretty easy to find a new level of appreciation for the tranquility of being immersed in nature and mesmerized by its depth of beauty.
